| Resumo | The laser scanning sensor or LiDAR has great potential for environmental analysis. The vegetation structure, described as the variation in height space and density of tree clusters, is a central component in understanding the function of tropical savanna and forest systems. The objective of this work is to evaluate the effect of edge distance on the vegetation structure from metrics obtained in Fusion software for plots located in forestland (cerradão). The distance of the plot from the nearest border was obtained from its centroid. Only in two of the seven strata defined, the effect was greater than expected by chance. In both situations the increase in distance led to an increase in maximum height variance. For the stratum of 0.5 to 1.5 meters the distance explained 53% of the variation, while for the stratum of 6 to 8 meters explained 43%. In both situations the increase in distance led to an increase in maximum height variance. One hypothesis to explain this may lie in the fact that the proximity of the edge tends to homogenize the light input up to a certain distance. The greater heterogeneity within the areas far from the edges in the studied system may be only an indicator of the natural processes of emergence of clearings, colonization and ecological succession internal to the system. The information generated by the laser was efficient in describing the spatial differences of structure observed and indicate the great structural heterogeneity in the nuclear areas of the remnant vegetation. |
